April was all about working together and reaching your people more reliably. We brought live collaboration to the email editor, gave you custom tracking to help your emails land in inboxes, and made a long list of automation improvements that put you in control. Here is a look at the highlights.
Edit together in real time
The email editor now supports collaboration. If multiple people open the same email, you can see each other's changes as they happen.
- At the bottom of the sidebar, you can see who else is viewing the email, each with their own color.
- When someone selects a block, you'll see their color and profile picture on it, so you always know what they're working on.
- While someone is editing a block, that block locks until they move on, so no one writes over anyone else's work.
It is a much easier way for a team to build an email side by side.
Custom open and click tracking
When you add a new domain, you can now choose to enable open and click tracking. We'll give you a couple of extra DNS records to add, which point your tracking links and open pixels to the same domain you send from. This helps improve deliverability so you land in more inboxes.
If you added a domain before April 16, you can still turn this on. Visit your domains page, open the domain you want to edit, flip the switches for click and open tracking, and add the new DNS records we provide.
Send to multiple lists and people
You can now choose more than one list to send an email to, and if someone is on two of those lists, we make sure they only get the email once. You can also send an email directly to specific people. That comes in handy when you want a list to receive an email but also want a few team members to get it too.
More control over your automations
We spent a lot of April making automations more flexible and easier to manage.
- Cancel all active runs for an automation without disabling it, or cancel a run for a single person, right from the People tab.
- A new Settings tab lets you rename an automation, edit its description, and choose whether people can go through it more than once.
- Each time someone runs through an automation, you'll see a new row on the People tab.
- Edit an active automation without canceling runs in progress. Those keep their old steps, while new runs use your updates.
- Duplicate email automations straight from the table, and jump to the editor for an email used in any automation step.
On the person details page, you can now see the automations someone has been part of, and the emails they received tab includes automation emails, which you can filter on too.
Share lists with your team
You can now share list permissions with a team, which makes it easier to give the right people access. We also added a new list details page where everyone with access can see all the emails sent to that list. Owners can manage a list's custom refresh schedule and its sharing permissions from there.
SMS and Tel links
When adding a link in the email editor, you can now create SMS and Tel links so people can text you or start a phone call with a single tap.
- We added phone and message icons to the footer icons and the icon block for these new link types.
- Text links in the footer can now point to URLs, emails, SMS, Tel, and files.
- These same link types are available in the link pages builder.
Fixes and improvements
A few smaller updates that made April better:
- Click a merge tag in the sidebar to drop it right where your cursor is in a text block.
- Email folder breadcrumbs now live in the main breadcrumbs bar, including on email detail pages and in the editor.
- Highlight text in a text block, add a link to your footer logo, and click the image placeholder to browse your asset library.
- Set the date format used for merge tags and Planning Center imports, and filter your lists by campus.
- Nest folders up to 5 layers deep, and press Escape to deselect a block in the editor.
- Editing on mobile got much easier, with arrow buttons to move blocks, an edit icon on the block itself, and the ability to import from Planning Center.
- We improved the load time of the emails and people tables, and refined the import from Planning Center popup.
- We fixed searching by email address on the people table, and a bug that kept you from removing a domain you'd already sent from.
That's a wrap on April. Log in to try these out, and as always, tell us what you'd like to see next.
